FINANCE AND PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION LEGISLATION COMMITTEE - 29/05/2001 - FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION PORTFOLIO

ACTING CHAIR (Senator Murray) —Good morning. Welcome to you all. Today we commence our consideration of Budget Estimates 2001-02 for the Finance and Administration portfolio. On 22 May 2001, the Senate referred to this committee Particulars of proposed expenditure for the period ending 30 June 2002, documents A and B, for the Finance and Administration portfolio. The committee is required to report to the Senate on or before 20 June 2001, and has set 27 June—please take note of that date—as the date for the submission of written answers to questions taken on notice. We will begin with the department, and then follow the order of agencies as listed in the portfolio budget statement, excluding the Office of Asset Sales and Commercial Support, which is scheduled for tomorrow.

For the department and each agency I will call on general questions not pertaining to outcomes first, and then outcomes and outputs in the order listed on the running sheet. For the benefit of Hansard, I remind witnesses to identify themselves in the first instance and to speak clearly and directly into the microphone.
