      4   COMMUNITY BASED ORGANISATIONS

The order of the day having been read for the resumption of the debate on the motion of Mr Melham—That this House:

(1)    acknowledges the contributions of:

(a)    Pole Depot;

(b)   Riverwood Community Centre;

(c)    the Chinese Australian Services Society;

(d)   Padstow Community Centre;

(e)    Mortdale Community Services; and

(f)    Community Services Alliance;

to the overall welfare of the people in the Hurstville, Kogarah, Bankstown and Canterbury local government association areas;

(2)    notes the contributions of all community-based organisations to the welfare and support of the neighbourhoods they service through:

(a)    family, youth and children’s services;

(b)   health, ageing and disability services;

(c)    migrant settlement and support;

(d)   carer respite and support;

(e)    education and training; and

(f)    sport and recreation;

(3)    recognises the support of the Government to those community groups through:

(a)    the Community Investment Program;

(b)   community grants;

(c)    volunteer grants; and

(d)   the Diversity and Social Cohesion Program;

(4)    acknowledges the advocacy of the management and boards of those organisations to ensure that local needs are being met; and

(5)    affirms the Government’s ongoing commitment to assisting those organisations ( see item No. 2, Votes and Proceedings )—

Debate resumed.
