     8   DISCUSSION OF MATTER OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE— Immigration policy

The House was informed that both Mr Husic and Mr Hockey had proposed that definite matters of public importance be submitted to the House for discussion today. In accordance with the provisions of standing order 46, the Speaker had given priority to the matter proposed by Mr Husic, namely, “The urgent need for leadership to reaffirm our commitment to a non-discriminatory immigration policy for Australia’s future”.
