The Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) is the Australian Government agency responsible for the efficient management and sustainable use of Commonwealth fish resources on behalf of the Australian community. The type of work undertaken at Canberra, Darwin and Thursday Island offices is primarily administrative. Seasonal Observers are employed to observe and document commercial fishing catches, operations and environmental interactions at-sea aboard a range of vessels in an out of the Australian Fishing Zone. Fisheries Officers conduct investigations and report on suspected breaches of fisheries and other legislation |
