Senator CASH (Western AustraliaMinister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Public Service, Minister for Employment and Minister for Women) (18:35): Senator Cameron, as you would well know, the government's position for many, many years now has been very clear: the government's preference was to have the relevant provisions of the original bill commence following gazettal. The government's position was not preferred by a majority of people within the Senate and, as such, the government sought an accommodation with the crossbench, as Labor and the Greens refused to deal with the government in relation to ensuring prosperity and productivity in the building and construction industry.
