Senator Bob Brown asked the President of the Senate, upon notice, on 15 March 2010:

(1)   What has been the nature and cost of all road work on Parliament Drive since (and including) when it was made one-way in 2006, and can an itemised list of the works be provided including a cost and rationale for each item.

(2)   With reference to current works on the public car park at Parliament House: (a) how many spaces were available for cars, motorcycles and bicycles before work commenced; and (b) how many spaces will there be once work is completed.


The President —The answer to the honourable senator’s question is as follows:

(1)   Roads works around Parliament Drive between 2005 and 2010 cost $2.05 million (administered capital funding) comprising:

Diagonal parking on the large driveways/roadways on the East and West sides of the car park is expected to provide 100 additional spaces. This will be subject to a traffic management study currently underway. Note: About 50 additional spaces will be available from 22 March 2010, with the remaining 50 spaces available once concrete kerbs are removed by late May 2010.
