Senator XENOPHON (6:06 PM) —I thank the minister for his answer. Perhaps we can have a broader discussion about that under government amendment (38). I appreciate that. I will just go to the next issue. As I understand it, currently an order for damages may be made under section 82 of the Trade Practices Act for contraventions of the Australian consumer law. Can the government clarify the status of item 44 in part 7 of the bill, as the government’s amendments to the bill are to remove this term. I am not sure whether I have misunderstood that but my understanding is that it actually takes away rights that consumers have with respect to this.
