Senator GREIG (6:13 PM) —As I mentioned earlier, opposition amendment (2) to clause 19 puts beyond doubt the power of a court to make an order to stay proceedings if a section 31 order has been made to prevent the disclosure of information and it is considered that the order will have a substantial adverse effect on the defendant's right to receive a fair hearing. We Democrats agree that it is important to highlight this power of the courts, as it provides a vital protection to the defendant's right to a fair trial, so we can readily support the amendment.
