Senator ELLISON (Minister for Justice and Customs) (1:43 PM)
—The government is opposed to this amendment. The requirement that alternative means of evidence gathering be considered before a warrant is granted is already a matter which a judge or AAT member must consider. That is referred to in paragraph 16(2)(d) of the bill. We believe that this has already been covered in the bill and for that reason we oppose the amendment.
Question negatived.
