Senator Brown asked the Minister for Defence, upon notice, on 2 April 2004:

With reference to the October 2003 Pentagon Report, Abrupt Climate Scenario and its implications for United States National Security by Peter Schwartz and Doug Randall:

(1) Did Australian agencies have any role in producing this paper; if so, what was that role.

(2) Has the department or any of its agencies undertaken similar programs to analyse the possible impacts of climate change on Australia's security; if so, can details and copies of the documents be provided.

(3) Is the scenario outlined in the Pentagon paper plausible.
