Senator IAN MACDONALD (Minister for Forestry and Conservation) (6:37 PM)
—You are getting into issues which I would prefer not to comment on at this stage. There are assessment panels and professional management officers working on these issues at the moment. I do not want to interfere at this stage, so this is an issue that I would rather not go into, notwithstanding the fact that it is not relevant to the amendment before the act, which is related to adding someone to the board of the authority. I appreciate your raising the issue, Senator McLucas, and I know that it is an issue that many of your constituents and mine in North Queensland are concerned about. It is a very complex issue, as these always are, but I hesitate to become involved in a debate in this chamber about purchasing, compensation and different issues which require a lot of thought before we get to the final conclusion.
