Senator VANSTONE (Minister for Family and Community Services and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Status of Women) (12:02 PM)
—The officials have given the best advice that they have in relation to this. They of course expect that people will want to go into detail at estimates about projections of the costs. But you have been given the information that there were 2,000 civilian detainees and that the expectation is that there will be some 600 who will be eligible to claim. In relation to the widows the figure is 6,000, and about 4,000 of those have remarried and will be paid under a different act; the 2,000 who have not remarried will be paid under the Veterans' Entitlements Act.
