Senator KEMP (Assistant Treasurer) (7:46 PM) —An inadvertent consequence of the passage of the overall package of amendments to the modified ANTS diesel fuel rebate scheme is that forestry and timber processing would have been required to pay approximately 8c per litre more for the off-road use of fuel than other agricultural industries. The intention of the government was always that these industries would receive the same rebate amount. This is perfectly consistent. The amendment contained in this bill ensures that this commitment is kept. This is not an extension. This is preserving a benefit which existed. This is entirely consistent. If you are trying to construct an argument around this, I do not believe that any fair reading of what was said and what was intended justifies it.
