Senator Tierney to move, on the next day of sitting:
That the Senate—
(a) notes:
(i) that, on 12 October 1999, the Minister for the Arts and the Centenary of Federation (Mr McGauran) officially opened the `Ribbons of Steel' exhibition which was staged in the Parliament House theatrette foyer, and
(ii) that this exhibition of art works has been developed as part of the celebration of 84 years of steel making at BHP, Newcastle, and is representative of 80 works, including installations, murals, photographic exhibitions, indigenous cultural heritage, plays, choirs and performances; and
(b) commends:
(i) the spirit of bipartisanship that has been demonstrated by all involved, particularly by the Member for Newcastle (Mr Morris) in jointly hosting the exhibition; and
(ii) BHP and the Australia Council for the Arts for sponsoring the exhibition and supporting this showcase of human cultural endeavour.
