Senator Brown to move, on the next day of sitting:

That the Senate—

(a) notes that the earth's population will reach 6 billion during October 1999;

(b) recognises that the 20th century began with 1.6 billion people and will end with 6.1 billion;

(c) understands that there may be as many as 10 to 14 billion people depending on the planet's finite resources during the 21st century; and

(d) calls for Australia to establish a global population policy.
