Senator Robert Ray asked the Minister representing the Prime Minister, upon notice, on 23 August 1999:

(1) How many Guests of Government were there in the 1998-99 financial year.

(2) In each instance, who were they.

(3) What was the total cost to the Commonwealth.


Senator Hill (Environment and Heritage) —The Prime Minister has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

Note: The answers to parts (1) and (2) are given in terms of the principal only and not the accompanying party, some of whom, including spouses, were also accorded guest of government status.

(1) The total number of Guests of Government for the 1998-99 financial year was 48.

(2) In each instance they were:
