Senator O'Brien asked the Minister representing the Minister for Education, Training and Youth Affairs, upon notice, on Wednesday, 18 August 1999:

(1) How many new apprenticeships in the aviation industry were established in the 1994-95, 1995-96, 1996-97, 1997-98 and 1998-99 financial years.

(2) How many people completed apprenticeships in the aviation industry in the above financial years.

(3) How many people left apprenticeships in the aviation industry before completing the course in the above financial years.


Senator Ellison (Special Minister of State) —The Minister for Education, Training and Youth Affairs has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

In respect to questions (1), (2) and (3), aviation industry apprenticeships have been defined as the trade of Aircraft Maintenance Engineer and the statistics given below are for those undertaking that trade.
