Senator Faulkner
asked the Minister representing the Prime Minister, upon notice, on 11 May 1999:
With reference to Kirribilli House:
(1) What was the specific nature, location of the work within the grounds or buildings, date of request, date of completion and cost of each item, excluding security works, of: (a) major works; and (b) minor works, undertaken or committed to be undertaken on the residence, grounds and other buildings in the period 3 March 1996 to 10 May 1999.
(2) What was the total cost of security works undertaken in the period 3 March 1996 to 10 May 1999.
Senator Hill (Environment and Heritage)
—The Prime Minister has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:
(1) Most of the information sought has been provided in my answers to parliamentary question numbers 425, 664, 860, 861, 1766, 2705 and 474 published in the House of Representatives Hansard on 20 August 1996 (p 3293); 9 October 1996 (p 5065); 19 November 1996 (p 7096 and p 7097); 21 October 1997 (pp 9362-9363); 15 July 1998 (pp 6204-6206); and 12 May 1999 (pp 4340-4341) respectively. Further related information was provided by my department to the Senate Finance and Public Administration Legislation Committee's Examination of Additional Estimates 1998-99, Additional Information Received Volume 1, Parlia ment, Prime Minister and Cabinet Portfolio (including ATSIC) (pp 118-121).
The remaining details requested in the honourable senator's question are not readily available and much of the information requested cannot be identified separately. To collect and assemble such information solely for the purpose of answering the honourable senator's question would be a major task and I am not prepared to authorise the expenditure of resources and effort that would be involved.
(2) $89,323.50 on security works and maintenance at Kirribilli House and $497,541.25 on combined perimeter security works and maintenance for Kirribilli House and Admiralty House. This includes work on a major physical security upgrade as recommended in a review commissioned by the Keating Government.
