Senator TROETH (12:08 PM) —I would like to respond very briefly to some of Senator Brown's statements. I would also like to ask if these two pieces of paper which have been kindly passed on to me by Senator Calvert could be incorporated in Hansard or tabled. I will just speak briefly to them and then I am happy to do with them whatever the Senate decides.

The TEMPORARY CHAIRMAN (Senator Knowles) —Could you pass copies to Senator Forshaw and other senators so that they can have a look at them while you are making your comments?

Senator TROETH —Yes, certainly. The two charts briefly detail the fact that, unlike the image that Senator Brown has portrayed, there is an enormous part of Tasmania which, incrementally over the last 20 years, has become part of the national parks system and even in this last year or two is already part of the RFA reserve system. Unlike the image that he would give, of most of Tasmania being ablaze, the fact is that Tasmania as a state has an enormous part of its land mass already locked up for those environmental objectives that he wishes to achieve.

I cannot let the moment pass without pointing out that in the last 20 years so much investment by any industry has been scared away from Tasmania by the activities of Senator Brown and his cohort. It literally scares off investment from his state. Is it any wonder that investment and jobs are departing his state at a rapid rate, when investment companies and other people who wish to invest money in Tasmania that would provide regional jobs simply do not have the incentive to do so, because of Senator Brown's activities?

The TEMPORARY CHAIRMAN —The question is: is leave granted for the documents produced by Senator Troeth to be incorporated in Hansard , subject to Hansard being able to reproduce them? There being no objection, it is so ordered.

The documents read as follows—
