Senator HARRADINE (6:48 PM)
—by leave—I wish to correct a statement which I made previously. I am indebted to Senator Margetts, who has provided me with a document from the Townsville regional office of the Queensland State Advisory Committee in which the chairperson of the regional council and Commissioner Rosendahl had this to say:
In addition, the State Advisory Committee takes strong exception to the flawed consultation process undertaken by the review team and believes that the very small number of people consulted the obvious conflict of interests of some of the panel members and the failure of the review team to acknowledge the formal review of regional council places serious doubt over the accuracy of the review findings.
In the prior debate, I mentioned that I had not heard that anybody had impugned or challenged any member of the review panel. Clearly, in this particular case there is a suggestion of conflict of interest of some of the panel. I am not sure of the details, but I thought I would put that into the record.
