Motion (by Senator Margetts) agreed to:

That the Senate—

(a) notes:

(i) media reports on 18 March 1999 stating that the Minister for Industry, Science and Resources (Senator Minchin) is taking to Cabinet the concerns of the resources industry regarding the proposed trade-off between accelerated depreciation and a lower corporate tax rate, and

(ii) the widespread and serious concerns relating to the negative environmental impact of the Government's proposed new tax system raised by a wide range of medical and environmental groups, industry groups and specialists; and

(b) calls on the Minister for the Environment and Heritage (Senator Hill) and the Minister for Health and Aged Care (Dr Wooldridge) to take the environmental and medical concerns to Cabinet with the same vigour as their economic portfolio colleagues.
