Senator BROWN (6:07 PM) —The Greens support the Democrat amendments here. If you turn it around the other way, why should the constitutions of political parties, particularly political parties which are in receipt of public funding or potentially in receipt of public funding as a result of elections, not be open to scrutiny? One political party, One Nation, recently has had a lot of heartache over its own party constitution, with members publicly feeling aggrieved about it. It would be a healthy thing for the political parties involved to know that at each election the returns after the election will involve them lodging a copy of the party constitution, as it may have been amended in the intervening years, so that it is there for all to see—a good piece of public accountability and transparency. The Greens support this amendment.
