Motion (by Senator Stott Despoja) agreed to:

That the Senate—

(a) notes that:

(i) Australian internet use continues to proliferate as current figures, produced by AC Nielsen's NetWatch service, show a 33 per cent increase in the number of Australians accessing the internet in the past year, and

(ii) access among young Australians is very high, with 51 per cent of all Australian teenagers accessing the internet in November 1998; and

(b) expresses concern that:

(i) the Government has not produced the framework legislation necessary to promote the emerging Australian industry, and

(ii) opportunities for Australian jobs, wealth and improved lifestyles are being lost because of a delay in implementing the necessary framework legislation.
