Senator STOTT DESPOJA (5:37 PM) —I do not mean to delay the Senate but I do not believe that Senator Forshaw's question was answered specifically. I do not think Senator Forshaw feels that it was answered specifically—I do not know what the head nodding means. The government has reiterated a commitment not to make Australia a nuclear waste dump. I am wondering whether the parliamentary secretary could answer specifically: would this leave the door open? I am interested in the legal implications of this amendment being defeated. Does it not allow those commercial dumps, if you like, to come into this country? I am just wondering whether it leaves the door open legally—not whether or not the government has a particular policy at this stage because, as Senator Margetts has stated, that can be changed pretty much at the whim of government.
