Senator TAMBLING (5:36 PM) —I reiterate the comments of both Senator Hill and Senator Minchin in the last week or so. Both have given unequivocal commitments of the government. Senator Hill said:

. . . the government is under no pressure; furthermore, it is not intending to build a facility for the disposal of high-level nuclear waste.

And Senator Minchin said in answer to a question:

. . . I think going back before we came into government—on the general issue of radioactive waste management, but those discussions have always been clearly on the premise that it is not government policy and will not be government policy to accept radioactive waste from other countries nor to accept high level radioactive waste.
