Senator FORSHAW (12:04 PM) —I indicate on behalf of the opposition that we are prepared to support Greens (WA) amendment No. 1. These fac ilities, such as nuclear power plants, do not exist in Australia at the moment. We understand that there is no either medium-term or long-term intention on the part of the government to proceed to construct such facilities. On many occasions the government has made it clear that, whilst it is determined to build a replacement research reactor located at Lucas Heights, it has stressed that it was not prepared or had no intention of building a waste reprocessing plant at the same site. On that basis alone, one would think that the government should be prepared to support this amendment. As I said earlier, we are happy to support it.
