Senator ALLISON —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That the Senate—

(a) notes:

(i) the work being done by the Environment, Recreation, Communications and the Arts References Committee on the powers of the Commonwealth in environmental protection and ecologically-sustainable development in Australia, and

(ii) that the Government is shortly expected to introduce a bill into the Senate on the Commonwealth review and reform of environment legislation; and

(b) resolves that, in view of the expertise developed by the Environment, Recreation, Communications and the Arts References Committee in this area, the bill, or bills, after their first reading in the Senate, stand referred to that committee for inquiry and report by the last day of sitting in November 1998.
