Senator ALLISON
—I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:
That the Senate—
(a) notes:
(i) the appointment of scientist Mr Don Henry as executive director of the Australian Conservation Foundation,
(ii) Mr Henry's credentials, which include negotiating the world's largest tropical forests protection package in the Amazon on behalf of the World Wildlife Fund for Nature with the World Bank, and other substantial forest conservation gains in Papua New Guinea and Indonesia, and
(iii) Mr Henry's comment that the rest of the world listens to Australia because of its past reputation with important environmental initiatives;
(b) congratulates Mr Henry on his appointment; and
(c) recognises that Australia does indeed have an important role to play globally in showing environmental leadership for the benefit of future generations.
