Senator KEMP (Assistant Treasurer) (9:49 AM) —This legislation will not be overruled by the MAI.

Senator Margetts —Not now, it won't.

Senator KEMP —The Australian government will insist that it has the capacity to make its own laws in relation to this issue. This government will protect its national interest, as it always has. There has been no statement by anyone that we were ready to sign in May. To be quite frank, I have said quite the contrary. That is quite wrong, and I want to put that on the record.
