Senator BROWN —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That, in this age of rationalisation, the Senate—

(a) congratulates the Minister for the Environment (Senator Hill) on winning the coveted 1998 award for the Minister Most Adept at Getting Rid of His Own Portfolio;

(b) notes the Minister's outstanding winning entry, which included:

(i) solving the problem of native forest and rainforest logging by turning the lot into woodchips and shipping it to Japan,

(ii) moving rapidly towards a uranium-free Australia,

(iii) showing how $1 billion can be spent with no impact on the environment whatsoever, and

(iv) making an exceptional effort towards getting rid of all the earth's environmental problems by turning up the heat;

(c) admires the stiff competition provided by the Assistant Treasurer (Senator Kemp) in his progress towards transferring all responsibility for the unemployed to themselves, the Minister for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (Mr Ruddock) who greatly diminished migration and his responsibility for those who do get to Australia, for at least 2 years, and by the Minister for Resources and Energy (Senator Parer) for his paperwork; and

(d) acknowledges the Shadow Minister for the Environment (Mr Kerr) who has provided singular evidence that shadows are without substance.
