Senator BROWN
—Madam President, I thank you for that response to my letter. I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:
That the following matters be referred to the Committee of Privileges for inquiry and report:
(1) Whether Senator Parer failed to declare a relevant interest before a division in the course of proceedings on the Native Title Amendment Bill 1997 on 4 December 1997, the Customs and Excise Legislation Amendment Bill (No. 2) 1996 (No. 2) on 28 May 1997, or on a motion to disallow the Customs (Prohibited Exports) Regulations (Amendment) on 23 May 1996, or on any other relevant debate or division.
(2) Whether Senator Parer committed a contempt in regard to these debates or divisions.
(3) Whether Senator Parer knowingly failed to provide details of registrable interests to the Registrar of Senators' Interests and whether any contempt was committed in that regard.
