Motion (by Senator Margetts) agreed to:
That the Senate—
(a) notes, with concern:
(i) the imprisonment in Romania of a lesbian, Mariana Cetiner, for allegedly attempting to seduce another woman, and
(ii) the existence of the notorious Article 200 in Romania's penal code, which makes it an offence to entice or seduce a person to practise same sex acts or to form propaganda associations or engage in other forms of proselytising with the same aim;
(b) notes that Amnesty International has announced that Mariana Cetiner is their first ever prisoner of conscience jailed on the basis of sexuality; and
(c) calls on the Australian Government to appeal to the Romanian Government to release Mariana Cetiner and others gaoled for consensual homosexual acts, and for the repeal of Article 200.
