Senator JACINTA COLLINS
—I give notice that, on Thursday, 12 March, I shall move:
That the Senate—
(a) notes the massacre of more than 30 Albanians in the Drenica region of Kosova on the weekend of 7 and 8 March 1998, and the further attacks on demonstrators in the city of Prishtina; and
(b) calls on the Australian Government to:
(i) immediately denounce and condemn the acts of violence committed by Serbian Government forces against Albanian citizens,
(ii) publicly support calls from the international community for the Serbian Government to ensure that the Serbian police and the Yugoslav army act with maximum restraint and take no further action that may lead to further violence, and
(iii) urge all sides in the dispute to enter into unconditional dialogue and call upon the Serbian Government to take legitimate steps to address the legitimate grievances of the Kosovo Albanian communities, including the implementation of the Kosova Education Agreement on an effective basis.
