Senator QUIRKE —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That the Senate notes:

(a) the failure of the Howard Liberal Government to adequately fund public health in Australia;

(b) that, as a result, the waiting lists of medical procedures have grown and, in particular, the waiting lists for dentistry have blown-out to years in states such as South Australia;

(c) that currently in South Australia, 78 000 people are waiting an average of 27 months for treatment, and that 11 000 others are waiting a similar time for denture repair or provision; and

(d) that the supposed surplus in the forthcoming 1998-99 Budget has been achieved over the decaying teeth of many of South Australians.
