Senator MARGETTS(11.11 a.m.) —I can see what the opposition is seeking to achieve by this amendment. I can see that it would be very difficult for the government to vote against this amendment considering all the things that they have said and all the things that they have accused the opposition and everybody else of doing. But I would like to indicate that the nature of the amendment, considering the Greens' position, is that we actually believe that the terra nullius argument clearly means that in justice it should be other property owners in Australia seeking rights of land from the traditional owners. In the ethics of the argument I am unable to support the amendment before us. We know what the legal arguments are, we know what High Court judges have said, but I am unable to support the amendment in the way that it is put forward.
