Senator WOODLEY(7.32 p.m.) —Look—

Senator McGauran —Just apologise.

Senator WOODLEY —No. What Senator Boswell has said is quite true.

The TEMPORARY CHAIRMAN (Senator MacGibbon) —Is this relevant to the amendment before the chair, Senator?

Senator Margetts —Was that? If you did not call him out of order, you should not call him out of order.

Senator WOODLEY —Are you going to call me out of order, Mr Temporary Chairman?

The TEMPORARY CHAIRMAN —No. I just asked you a question.

Senator WOODLEY —Of course it is relevant to the debate we are having. I have no problem with the example that Senator Boswell has given, but it does not interfere with my putting on the record the legislative and practical action taken by the Queensland government over many years to the great disadvantage of Aboriginal people. Joh Bjelke-Petersen in his personal dealings with people was a very kind man. There is no doubt about that. Joh Bjelke-Petersen had a Lutheran doctrine of the two kingdoms. That doctrine of the two kingdoms allowed him in his personal dealings with people to be a very kind person.

Senator McGauran —You are a fruitcake.

Senator Heffernan —You are not in the pulpit now, for God's sake.

The TEMPORARY CHAIRMAN —Order! Senator Woodley has the call.

Senator WOODLEY —But it allowed him in his actions as Premier to separate that entirely from his actions as a person. That was the whole problem. Often as a law maker he did some appalling things, whereas as a person he very often did some kind things. So I can add to Senator Boswell's story, but the problem is that legislatively and as the premier of a government very often his actions were to the very grave detriment of Aboriginal people.

Amendment (Senator Margetts's) agreed to.

Amendment (Senator Bolkus's), as amended, not agreed to.

The TEMPORARY CHAIRMAN —We now move to revised sheet 9, government amendment No. 70.
