Senator MARGETTS(4.39 p.m.) —I move:

(316)   Schedule 3, item 30, page 256 (lines 14 to 21), omit subsection (1), substitute:

   (1)   A representative body must, in respect of each financial year:

      (a)   prepare a report of the operations of the body during that year, together with financial statements in respect of that year; and

      (b)   give the report and the financial statements to ATSIC as soon as is reasonably practicable but, in any event, before the end of the next financial year.

Greens-Democrat amendment 316 extends the deadline for the annual report from 15 October in the next financial year to the end of the next financial year. The report is to be given to ATSIC and not to the minister. It is similar to the ALP amendment but the National Indigenous Working Group believed it was slightly preferable.
