Senator Bolkus asked the Minister representing the Minister for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, upon notice, on 26 August 1997:

(a) What funding has been allocated in each of the past 3 financial years for migrant community workers in the electorate of Barton; and (b) what funding is proposed for the 1997-98 financial year.

Note:

1.   Negotiations are continuing between the Department and organisations regarding the work plans and, accordingly, the levels of workers to be employed for the above positions. The proposed 1997/98 financial allocation may therefore change depending on the outcome of these negotiations.

2.    The "Minority Strategy" award to the St George MRC is based on the financial allocation. The MRC anticipates that this will equate to approximately 1.6 of a full-time worker. As the Department and the MRC are currently negotiating the work plan the final outcome may vary slightly from the above.
