Senator BOURNE —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

(1)   That there be laid on the table, by the Leader of the Government in the Senate (Senator Hill), not later than 28 October 1997, a report by an independent auditor verifying the audit integrity of travelling allowance payments made by the Department of Administrative Services to each minister, parliamentary secretary and office holder, in the 1995-96 and 1996-97 financial years, in line with the audit of the travelling allowance payments to other members of Parliament in those years.

(2)   The report referred to in (1) should reflect the use of appropriate data-matching techniques, including the matching of travelling allowance payments data with use of travel entitlements data.

(3)   That there be laid on the table, by the Leader of the Government in the Senate, for each succeeding financial year, not later than 4 months after the close of that financial year, a report by an independent auditor, prepared on the same basis as described in (2), verifying the audit integrity of travelling allowance payments made by the Department of Administrative Services to each member of the Parliament in that year.

(4)   That (3) of this resolution be a continuing order of the Senate.
