Senator ELLISON (Minister for Customs and Consumer Affairs and Minister Assisting the Attorney-General)(6.10 p.m.) —What I did say was that the exemption will not diminish the requirements under the bill for proper application of other requirements of the bill, including consultation, registration, tabling and sunsetting. That was the part where I said it would not interfere with things. As for those specific aspects of the Migration Act, amendment (5) deals with:

. . . Part 1, 2 or 9) of the Migration Act 1958, or a legislative instrument under Part 1, 2 or 5, or Schedule 2 or 6, of the regulations made under that Act—

That, I gather, is what you wanted to ascertain it relates to.


Senator Bolkus —Maybe you can tell us which of these provisions are currently exempt from the sort of scrutiny we are discussing now.


Senator ELLISON —I understand the sorts of things this relates to are matters dealing with the migration program, such as capping notices. They are not presently disallowable. This being exempted preserves the status quo.
