Senator BOLKUS(5.48 p.m.) —I will just very briefly respond to Senator Harradine. Senator, if you look at the 1994 version of this legislation, you will find in clause 48(5) essentially what is now reflected in clause 61(7).

Senator Harradine —The 1994 bill?

Senator BOLKUS —Our 1994 bill, yes. That was before the election; that is right.

Senator Harradine —I'm talking before then.

Senator BOLKUS —The 1994 bill is sort of far enough back for me but, if you want to, we can go back to before then. The point that can be made is that in 1994 we adopted a position which is consistent with what is in clause 61(7) now.

Senator Margetts —But you are older and wiser now.

Senator BOLKUS —I might be a lot older, Senator Margetts, but I am not so sure about the wiser aspect. I am still in this place, for instance. But I have said today that, given the particular and specific problem raised by Senator Margetts, we may have to look at the provision that we adopted in 1994, which we have said we support now. It is something out of the blue. I think it is worthy of very careful consideration, Senator Harradine.

Amendment postponed.
