Senator CAMPBELL (Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer)(5.45 p.m.) —I presume the Democrats are supporting this amendment, are they, Senator Murray?

Senator Murray —Yes, we will support this amendment.

Senator CAMPBELL —As I said, I have noticed the numbers in this place. What I am suggesting, instead of losing the whole thing, is to try to salvage something. The government would be happy to accept the amendment if we were to insert in subsection (1) where it says `matters relating to industry development and productivity' the word `industry,' so it would now read:

. . . matters relating to industry, industry development and productivity includes . . .

Senator Murray —Could you just repeat that, please?

Senator CAMPBELL —In the proposed new section 6(2), instead of Senator Sherry's proposed words, which would read `matters relating to industry development and productivity', the words would now read `industry, industry development and productivity'. We would have thought industry was an inclusive sort of word which would have included industry development, but we think these words would be even more inclusive. I move:

Omit "matters relating to industry development", substitute "matters relating to industry, industry development".
