Senator KERNOT (Leader of the Australian Democrats)(8.31 p.m.) —I want to say to Senator Harradine, who has gone, that this is not about unpaid work. I want to add to those comments. The only thing different that I would add is that this is about giving some, mainly women, an opportunity to have retirement income based on the income of their working spouse. The reality is that those women are in a relationship with spouses who earn enough money to be able to do that, so it is not about low-income or even middle-income Australians. That is the point that we are taking issue with. It is not a recognition of unpaid work, and it is not low income.

Schedule agreed to.

The TEMPORARY CHAIRMAN (Senator McKiernan) —It may suit the convenience of the committee to reconsider schedule 10. That can be done by leave at the request of the Greens and the opposition. Is leave granted? There being no objection, leave is granted.
