Senator KEMP (Assistant Treasurer)(8.30 p.m.) —I thank senators for their comments. Some of the issues that have been raised are very important issues and they touch on, but certainly go wider than, the specific issue which is before us in the chamber, and which we now have to decide on.

I think this measure goes some way to addressing some of the concerns that Senator Harradine has raised and, to the extent that I could get a theme out of Senator Sherry's comments, it goes some of the way to addressing some of those concerns as well.

I urge the Senate to support the measure that has been put forward by the government. We think it is an important measure; it was flagged in our election policy, and I hope the Senate will support it.
