Proposal to refer a bill to a committee

Name of bill:

Small Superannuation Accounts Amendment Bill 1997

Reasons for referral/principal issues for consideration:

The three principles involved:

preventing the taking of amounts less than $500.

preventing persons permanently moving overseas from transferring superannuation out of the country.

more vigorous hardship provisions

all are substantial changes that will affect the total superannuation system and should be thoroughly examined.

Possible submissions or evidence from:

ASFA, LIFA, ACTU, Institute of Actuaries, Outokumpu and individuals who have written, affected by the changes.
