Senator HERRON (Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs) —Senator Carr asked me a question about correspondence I have received from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders relating to the government savings tax initiative. I seek leave to have the answer incorporated in Hansard .

Leave granted.

The answer read as follows

On Wednesday, 28 May 1997 (Hansard page 3506) Senator Carr asked me a question without notice about the number of letters I have received from Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders relating to the Government's Savings Tax Initiative. I took the question on notice and now provide the following answer:

"My correspondence records indicate that I have not received any letters on this matter from indigenous Australians. I also note that I have not received any correspondence on this matter from non-indigenous Australians."
