Senator NEAL(9.37 p.m.) —I might not have made myself completely clear. At the moment the Australian Hearing Services is able to get a very low unit cost for their hearing aids. They purchase about 135,000 a year so they can go to a manufacturer and get that very low cost. That means that, obviously, they are applying pressure against anybody else. My concern is, if Australian Hearing Services is no longer providing 135,000 hearing aids, they will not be able to buy them as cheaply. I am asking: could the parliamentary secretary provide an assurance that this corporatisation will not mean we will be paying more for our hearing aids? Are you prepared to give that assurance?
