Senator LEES (Deputy Leader of the Australian Democrats)
—by leave—(9.59 a.m.)—I move:
Clause 12, page 8 (line 1), after "indirect", insert "causes and".
Clause 12, page 8 (line 21), omit "on Australia's economy and".
Cluase 12, page 8 (line 3), at the end of paragraph (a), add "and to estimate the effects of land and water degradation on Australia's economy".
These are small amendments inserting either a word or a clause to generally make the intent much clearer. In particular, regarding amendment 4, we believe that we should not just be looking at the effects of land water degradation but also addressing and examining the causes of that degradation—hence that amendment. Amendments 5 and 6 are basically putting the environment first in what is an environment bill.
