2. The Committee reconsidered the following bills:

Excise Tariff Amendment Bill (No. 1) 1997
and resolved to recommend that the orders of the Senate of 6 February 1997 and 20 March 1997, adopting report nos 1 and 5, respectively, be varied as follows:

Australia New Zealand Food Authority Amendment Bill 1996
Reasons for referral/principal issues for consideration:
concerns regarding the imposition of changes on the Australian food and beverages industry to meet operating costs of ANZFA.
concern for industry being charged to meet some costs of maintaining food standards to protect public health.
the bill may allow "fee for service" charges to be imposed, therefore no specific fee structures and charges are arbitrary.
