Senator STOTT DESPOJA
—I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:
That the Senate—
(a) expresses concern that the rate of youth unemployment among 15 to 19 year-olds seeking full-time employment across the States is as follows:
South Australia—42%
New South Wales—27%
Victoria—29%
Queensland—27%
West Australia—19%
Tasmania—34%;
(b) notes that:
(i) these figures do not account for the large numbers of under-employed young people, and
(ii) unemployment is intimately linked with poverty; and
(c) expresses its concern that poverty is increasingly affecting young Australians.
